Introduction:
The Building Design Standards are intended to establish a common basis for the design, construction, renovation and general maintenance of facilities at Rice University campus.

These standards represent guidelines, not specifications, of products at Rice University. Components shall be selected through pre-qualification guidelines including, but not limited to, the standard performance, characteristics, code/regulatory compliance, maintenance control, and inventory standardization.

The intent of these standards is not limited to creative solutions. When these standards refer to a single manufacturer, it is not intended to exclude all other alternatives for all projects, unless specifically stated by the University’s Architects, Project Managers and/or Project Engineers.
